The Teardown - Part 4 - 09/28/2014

Time to get the engine and transmission pulled once and for all! Everything is disconnected, so this should be easy, right?

Cherry picker and load leveler set up ready to make short work of this.

After futzing around, realized there wouldn't be enough room so I dropped the crossmember. The hardware used has cinch nuts on it so it's REALLY difficult to remove. Interesting to note is passenger side had washers under the nuts but the driver's side didn't. Guess we know where the line worker who HADN'T had 3 beers at lunch was working...

Crossmember hits the floor, several quarts of transmission fluid drop out. Fortunately right into the pan... after I reposition it to actually catch it... Driveshaft on this car is massive.

Out she slides!

And into the garage.

Steering assembly and brake hardware is all that's left of front end. Time to get the rear bumper and differential out and I'm done!

Pictures are deceptive. 6 pictures and "everything" already disconnected still took almost 3 hours to remove the engine and transmission! Slow and steady is the name of the game, especially when you're you're own spotter and safety watch... Should have filed a hoisting and rigging plan, but then I'd have to sit down at my own committee and approve it and we all know how argumentative they can be...
