Wiper Arm Work - 01/16/2015
What's annoying? Wipers that aren't aligned and don't park correctly. It's not difficult to fix but some people just don't get how the wiper transmission works and monkey with it and end up screwing it up. And some people think they know what they're doing and screw it up. I'm not the former and really try not to be the latter...
The passenger side is "off" and sticks up pretty far. After checking for the obvious "hammered on slightly off" that was cleared as a reason and then we had to look elsewhere...
Pull off the plastic cover and see this. The transmission linkage setup is not perfect and the wiper motor is ever so slightly off...
That's not good. Wiper motor screw is snapped off and missing. Checking the photos from 2 years ago that the previous owner sent, it was broken then...
The "new" bolt to install (parts cars are good for something!). Used pliers to get old chunk out and then loosened transmission arms to tighten up motor with new bolt.
The 2 nuts on each end adjust the movement that the wiper will travel. Loosen and adjust to the ideal park position.
Now it sits just fine and even. Need to run through the wiper cycle a few times to make sure it doesn't bind, and this doesn't.
And now you can't see the wipers like you aren't supposed to - hidden wipers were a popular thing in this era.
It really is fixing all the little things that make a car that much more presentable and enjoyable.
