Windshield Washer - 08/27/2015

Getting sprayed by the salt truck sucks under normal circumstances. Getting sprayed in the windshield and being unable to clean it off in traffic definitely sucks. That was last November. Since winter is coming and it does rain\make a mess around here, I decided to get off my butt and fix this...

New washer pump. Trico part was only $9, the Ford Motorcraft part was $29.95, don't ask me why.

It's in the reservoir on the right, next to the radiator overflow (why they're the same, I don't know, Ford thing?).

Fortunately it's pretty easy access when the reservoir isn't full. I did manage to spill a lot though, because that's how these things go.

After prying and prodding it finally came out. Very corroded and crusty.

The hole it goes in. Pretty simple design really.

New pump on left, old on right. Almost an exact identical part to the factory one.

New pump is installed. It uses a thin metal washer with teeth on the outside to bite into the plastic. It's thick plastic and the washer is very thin and sacrificial, so a new one is included. Kind of a hokey install method but it seems to work fine.

And the windshield is wet! Imagine that!

Pretty simple, only took about 20 minutes to install. Pretty sad that it took so long to actually replace it compared to the work involved but at least it was the last item on the list for the truck to fix. Everything now officially works.
