Work - Part 2 - 08/21/2014

Work continues! Brakes needed investigating (and doing). Lights are important to investigate as well, and fuel gauge verification.

Those backup lights are BRIGHT! Note plate light doesn't work... Steve says there's holes for them but no bulbs or socket wiring???

Front headlights are good too. Grill fog lamps don't come on, Steve isn't sure if they are even wired up.

Plate lights now wired up!

Rotors are in great shape.

Pads are THIN.

Less than 25% life was left. Kind of crazy. Pads are cheap too.

Steve says the front fuel gauge always reads empty but the back reads fine. Not one to want to pull the tank, I suggested that filling it with some gas and letting cycle a few times might make it start reading if the sender is corroded from lack of use. The dash switch could also be flaky from lack of use as well. Steve liked the idea and put 7 gallons in, then put some Seafoam in the tank. Drove it around a few days and suddenly the gauge starts working! I love the simple solutions best...

Truck is practically ready to go now! Just needs new rubber for the wipers, and maybe new tires. Steve says it rides a little harsh on them, but is like driving a Cadillac around in the interior department. The tire date codes indicate roughly 7 years old, so getting them replaced is prudent. Steve says the more he drives it the worse it sounds and the more annoying they are, so better change them out to avoid problems. The gauge is still a little flaky, but driving around will likely fix that. The fan clutch is engaging as it should in stop and go traffic, so it doesn't overheat and it isn't overly obnoxious in the volume department either. I'm anxious to fly out and drive back home next week...
