Take Possession Day - 08/15/2004
We took ownership of the house July 26th, but they wanted a rentback clause until the 14th so we put that in the contract. $125/day is steep, but they wanted it...
Our house is located in the Rancho Penasquitos section of San Diego in North County inland, just down the road from I-15 and Poway. You can see the giant Nokia plant from the neighborhood street.
Avenida de la Cantina. Avenue of the Bar. So appropriate since we drink so much...
Here we go opening the house for the first time...
The living room. The house was built in 1973 and is 1420 official square feet with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. An add-on section of the house has another 200 square feet.
The kitchen. Vintage cabinets and new appliances (with RO water dispenser! r0x!).
The added on room (essentially an enclosed porch). Complete with doggie door for Sadie.
The hall. The master bedroom is to the right, two bedrooms to the left and one straight ahead.
The other two bedrooms straight ahead.
Mmmm... pink walls and carpet...
Second bedroom. Dig that wood paneling.
Another view of the second bedroom. Once again the wood paneling is what this room has going for it...
Third bedroom, or the computer room. I hear vinyl tile is back in this season, and this time it's not just for the kitchen and bathrooms!
Fourth bedroom. No good pictures here.
Master bathroom.
Sadie inspects the master bathroom.
The garage...
Another garage view. Dig the $2000 Neptune washer and dryer set the owners threw in.
The spa that doesn't work (yet the owner insisted it does).
The backyard view. One house between us and a wilderness reserve, so no chances of being squeezed in by developers for a while.
All in all the house is decent. The carpet is complete crap and needs to go. The acoustic ceiling needs to come down as it is 2-3 layers thick. All that crap paneling needs to go too. The electrical wiring is all hosed too. 2 bedrooms have lightswitches that don't turn anything on and one has the hot wires running along the wall in a plastic conduit. Yay for the do-it-yourself approach! The previous owner had a surround sound system in the living room that he drilled holes everywhere for and ran speaker wires. That's got to go too. Sounds exciting, doesn't it?
